The Peebles Principles

September 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I just finished the Peebles Principle by Don Peebles.  I love reading books from entrepreneurs that I know from TV or magazines.  Feels like I know who I am reading about.  But mostly I like to read business books to motivate myself and the Peeble Principle is a good book for that.

Don Peebles wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth (i.e.: Donald Trump) but he worked hard and worked his way up.  I am sure he is a bright guy and I am sure he had some luck, but he worked hard and that is the base component for success.  Luck and intelligences are two things you have no control over (to some degree) but hard work is completely within your grasp.  I know a little bit about Don Peebles from the book and from seeing him on CNBC and I like him (I am sure  that is a big relief to him).  Seems like a reasonable normal guy.

Back to the book … it was a good book if you like the “how I did it” business books.  But like so many other entrepreneurs, there is a serious ego going on and a lot of the book is self congratulatory but no different than Trump or Pickens books.  Either way, I liked it and read the whole thing.  As I generally get bored quickly, that is a big thing for me.
